The name of Chauchina comes from the Latin term sancius that means willow, by the numerous presence of this arboreal species in all the area. The Romans were here at the end of century III before Christ and have been vestiges of it in the Mill of the King and the Grove of Rome. Between years 711 and 713 the Muslims arrived. Cauchina became one of the many farmhouses of the Fertile valley of Granada, by that time there were between 500 and 1,000 inhabitants. During the war between tha catholic Kings and Boabdil, the territory, probably by fear, was vacated; just like after the expulsion of the moriscos and in spite of the arrival of new colonos. During century XVIII the population increased thanks to the linen and hemp. And after the war of Independence all the zone was gotten up to the jurisdiction of the Duke of Wellington. In the 19 th century they began to construct the center of the present urban nucleus, that grew thanks to agriculture.
